Lily moved back to the Wairarapa after living in Auckland with her father for her college years. She approached the team for help to get full time work that would give her the opportunity to learn and gain skills on the job that could give her career growth.
Lily was working a part time seasonal holiday jobs over summer at Riversdale and Carterton. She had been applying for a number of roles but was hearing nothing back from businesses. The team jumped into action to help her create a CV and supported her with job applications.
Mike Butterick (National MP for Wairarapa) was advertising for a Personal Assistant position and he is a strong advocate of Youth2Work. We had our business connector contact him to gain his support to help us put our rangatahi forward for the position. We were to make sure we had noted on the application that the applicant was working with the Y2WW team. The decision would ultimately be made by Parliament in Wellington.
Lily gained an interview which was performed via Zoom. As this was something new, Y2W prepped Lily with interview skills before the interview. Lily was offered the role and then sent down to parliament to do two days of intense training.
Lily has now settled into her role with Mr Butterick which included the setting up of the new office with furniture and looking after the grand opening of the office at the end of first week on the job!
Lily is enjoying her role so far and is doing a great job.
